Join us on an amazing bicycle adventure of Kilauea Volcano. Witness first hand the first eruption of the summit of Kilauea since 1982. During this exhilarating guided bicycle tour you will see the best highlights of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park while biking on paved roads and trails.

Your exciting day begins at the Jaggar Musuem in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where you will get your first glance of the incredible Summit Caldera eruption. Your expert Interpretive Guide will give you a tour orientation and an informative overview of the eruption history at the summit. We will explore the museum, see interpretive exhibits on Hawaiian volcanoes and the work of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

The next stop will be our biking starting point at the Kilauea Overlook, where you will you’ll be fitted for a Giant Sedona DX hybrid comfort mountain bike and safety equipment, and receive a safety briefing. Your Guide will then lead you on an off road trail along the rim of the Caldera to the Steam Vents, where you’ll literally feel the heat of the volcano.

The adventure continues through the native Hawaiian rainforest section of the Summit. You will travel on a paved trail along the edge of the Summit Caldera on roads that partially collapsed in 1982 earthquake.

Our bike course then rejoins Crater Rim Drive where you will bike through a lush, ancient Hawaiian Fern Forest. Your next stop will be the Kilauea Iki Crater Overlook. Here you will see the cinder cone Pu’u Pua’i and an incredible view of this crater.

Just a short distance away you will see our first pit crater on the course, Nahuku. This is where we will get a chance to walk through the famous Thurston Lava Tube. The voyage continues as you wind your way through the rainforest and down the Chain of Craters Road. You will see several large pit craters, a lava shield volcano, and lava trees during this part of the tour.

Our bike trail ends at Mau Loa O Mauna Ulu where you’ll experience the massive Mauna Ulu lava flow. There are many stops along the bicycle course to view and photograph this incredible volcanic scenery, and learn about the history of this ever-changing dynamic landscape.

 

Time to relax, our air condition van will take you the rest of the way to the ocean to the end of the Chain of Craters Road where the 2003 lava flow has crossed the road (time permitting). Along the way you will see awesome panoramic views of the Ka’u coastline.Hawaii volcano Bike Tour

 

You be served a delectable lunch oceanside where there is a good possibility of spotting the amazing Humpback Whales that visit the Hawaiian islands during the months of October through May. If Madame Pele (Volcano Goddess) allows, you will also see the active lava flowing into the Pacific Ocean in the distance.

More relaxation, we will then return to the summit by van and go to our last stop, an optional 15 minute wine tasting session at the Volcano Winery. Tropical fruits like yellow guava and the exotic jaboticaba berry are blended with traditional wine grapes and transformed into vibrant creations that capture the playful spirit of Hawaiian paradise and the winery’s relaxed, laid-back atmosphere is the perfect place to try them.
